AI review drafts

AI review drafts written from your customer's own answers

An AI review draft is suggested wording for a review, written from what a real customer told you. On ReviewGen, the customer taps a star rating, answers your questions and picks one of three drafts based on their answers. They edit it and post it themselves on Google, Yelp or another review site.

Key takeaways

  • Drafts are built from three things only: the customer's star rating, their answers and any comment they add.
  • A 3-star answer gets a 3-star draft. The AI is told never to make a review sound happier than the customer was.
  • The customer picks the draft, edits it and posts it from their own account. ReviewGen never posts for them.
  • You choose the tone and length of the drafts, and the review site they're written for.
  • Every customer gets the same page, whatever star they tap.

How an AI review draft gets from your customer's answers to Google

  1. The customer opens your link

They scan your QR code or tap the link you sent. The page opens in their phone's browser, with no app or account.

  2. They rate the visit and answer your questions

A progress line shows "Question 2 of 4". Text answers can be a few words.

  3. They tap "Suggest wording"

ReviewGen writes drafts from their answers while they wait on the page.

  4. They pick the draft that sounds most like them

If none fit, "Show different drafts" writes a new set.

  5. They copy it and post it

The page copies the draft and opens your review site. The customer pastes it, changes anything they like and posts.

Why do happy customers say yes and then never leave the review?

Plenty of customers say "sure, I'll leave you a review" and mean it. Then they open Google, see an empty box with a blinking cursor, and close the tab meaning to come back to it.

A draft gives them somewhere to start, built from what they told you a minute earlier: the stylist was patient, or the brake job came in under the quote. Editing a few sentences takes far less effort than writing from nothing, so more of the people who said yes get as far as posting.

What does the customer see on their phone?

The page opens with your business name and a short line: "Answer a few quick questions, then pick a draft and edit it before you post."

After the last question, the customer sees "Pick the draft that sounds most like you", with a note that the drafts are based on their answers and they can change any of it before posting. Each draft sits on its own card with a "Use this draft" button. One is marked "Suggested".

When they choose one, ReviewGen copies it and shows three steps: open the review site, paste the draft into the review box, change anything you like and post it. An "Open Google" button (or Yelp, Facebook and so on) takes them straight to your review page.

Stopped in for a flat white and it was great. The staff were friendly and made me feel welcome. I'll be back.

Friendly staff and a really good flat white. Easy five stars from me.

How does ReviewGen keep AI review drafts honest?

Each draft is written in the first person as that customer, from what that customer said. ReviewGen gives the AI four rules, and they take priority over any style setting:

  1. Use the specific details the customer mentioned, in natural wording.
  2. Match their star rating and sentiment. A rating of 3 stars or lower, or any mention of a problem, gets an honest, balanced draft.
  3. Never invent details the customer didn't give, such as names, products, dishes, prices or results.
  4. Treat your business description as background only, never as part of the customer's experience.

If a customer skips the text questions, the drafts stay short and general instead of filling the gaps with made-up specifics.

The rules are written with two policies in mind: Google's review policy for Business Profiles, and the US FTC rule on fake reviews, in effect since October 2024. Both ask whether a review comes from a real customer describing their own experience. Read our guides to Google's review policy, the FTC fake review rule and using AI review tools within the rules.

What can you change as the owner?

You shape the drafts through your review page settings.

  • Your questions. Specific questions get specific answers. "What did you have?" gives the AI more to work with than "Any comments?"
  • Review site. Pick the site customers post on, from Google, Yelp, Facebook, TripAdvisor and 8 more, or type your own. Drafts are written for that site: Google drafts run shorter and more direct, and Yelp drafts read more like a story.
  • Tone. Pick from 10 tones, such as Professional, Casual and Friendly, or type your own. Tones that suit your review site are listed first.
  • Length. Short, medium or long, with ranges that fit the site, or set your own between 100 and 1,000 characters.
  • Page text. Change the headline and message customers read first.

What happens if drafts can't load?

The customer can always still post. If drafts fail to load, the page says "We couldn't suggest wording right now. You can still write your review directly." and shows a button to your review site.

The same applies if your trial ends without a plan. Drafts pause, your link keeps working, and customers get the button to write their review on the site directly.

What AI review drafts don't do

  • Posting is always the customer's job, from their own account on the review site.
  • Every customer sees the same page. There's no star threshold and no separate path for low ratings.
  • ReviewGen has no discounts, entries or gifts tied to leaving a review, and you shouldn't add your own.
  • A customer who shares no details gets a short, general draft with nothing made up.
  • Replies to reviews already on your profile are outside the product. The free review reply generator handles those.
